Kappa Sigma Fraternity

Western Michigan Colony

Kappa Sigma is the largest college social fraternity in the world with more than 250,000 living members, including over 17,000 undergraduates and nearly 300 chapters and colonies located throughout the United States and Canada. Founded in 1869 at the University of Virginia, Kappa Sigma International Headquarters is based in Charlottesville, Virginia.

What is a colony?

A colony is a dynamic opportunity to build a new chapter of a fraternity at a university. While not yet a fully chartered chapter, a colony operates under the support and guidance of the national organization, granting members a unique chance to shape the chapter's future. This developmental phase allows for the establishment of a strong, values-driven foundation, fostering leadership skills and creating a distinct chapter identity. Members gain invaluable experience in recruitment, organizational management, and community building, ultimately paving the way for official recognition and a lasting legacy on campus.
